Statement on the Passing of Senator Lindsey Graham

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. Senator Graham represented South Carolina in the United States Senate for more than two decades, following years of service in the South Carolina Legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives. Few South Carolinians have had as long or as visible a career in public service.

My daughter Issy interned in Senator Graham’s office last summer, and I know firsthand how much his staff admired him and the seriousness with which he took his responsibility to South Carolina.

While we did not always share the same views, I have always respected the sacrifices that come with a life in public office, both for the person who serves and for the family who supports them. Senator Graham’s dedication to South Carolina was constant throughout his career.

Today, my thoughts are with Senator Graham’s family, his staff, and the countless South Carolinians whose lives he touched. I hope they find comfort in the memories of his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
