Hurricane Dorian

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Although Hurricane Dorian has weakened further into a Category 2 storm as of this morning, it has grown larger in size. Since South Carolina is currently in the storm’s predicted path (although its exact course still remains uncertain), Governor McMaster has ordered mandatory evacuations for several coastal counties. To find out whether you are in an evacuation zone, please visit the Know Your Zone” tool on SCEMD’s website. The Eastbound lanes of I-26 have been reversed to accommodate the increased traffic volume. Here is a link to a map that shows what exits will be open or closed during the lane reversal operation. You can click on each exit for detailed information. All schools and government offices in those evacuation counties will be closed, beginning Tuesday, September 3, as follows: Jasper, Beaufort, Colleton, Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Georgetown, and Horry. In the event that you lose power, you may report outages to Dominion Energy by going online here or report by text message or by calling 1-888-333-4465. Its interactive outage map can be accessed here. As we stay watchful for this impending weather event, please stay safe and make the necessary preparations. Thank you for the privilege of representing you and our community in the legislature. Best,
