Voter Registration and Absentee Voting

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Absentee voting begins TODAY and you have until WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17 to register to vote. The date to register was extended due Hurricane Florence. I would encourage everyone to vote so that your voice may be heard. In addition to the congressional and state House of Representative seats, we will be voting for our next Governor and other constitutional officers. The election is on November 6, 2018. VOTING IN SOUTH CAROLINA

EXTENDED DATES AND DEADLINES DUE TO HURRICANE FLORENCE

October 17 - Deadline to register in person by 5 pm

October 8 - Absentee voting begins

October 17 - Deadline to register by mail, fax, or email – Must be postmarked before midnight. You may register online at https://info.scvotes.sc.gov/eng/ovr/start.aspx

November 2 - Absentee ballot application must be received by 5:00 pm (by mail, fax, or email)

November 5 - Last day to request absentee ballot in person

November 6 - 7:00 pm - Absentee ballots must be received by mail or in person

November 6 - Election Day - Polls are open from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm

ELIGIBILITY TO VOTE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

United States citizenship;
18 years old on or before the election;
Resident of South Carolina;
Not under court order declaring you mentally incompetent; and
Not confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime.

ACCEPTABLE PHOTO IDs TO VOTE

SC Driver’s License;
SC Department of Motor Vehicles ID card;
SC Concealed Weapons Permit;
SC Voter Registration Card with photo;
Federal Military ID; and/or
US Passport

REASONS TO REQUEST ABSENTEE BALLOTS

65 years or older;
Working on Election Day;
Disabled or incapacitated;
Taking care of sick or disabled persons;
Attending school outside county of residence;
Government employee working outside county of resident;
A death in the family;
Serving as a juror;
Admitted to the hospital;
Confined to a jail or pre-trial facility pending disposition of arrest or trial; and/or
Member of the Armed Services or Merchant Marines.
